The 11th Virtual Discussion between AUN and 51³Ô¹Ïfreshmen

OnÌýNovember 16, 2024, students from the American University of Nigeria (AUN) and the 2023 51³Ô¹Ï (AUCA) met via Zoom to discussÌýTraditional and AI Teaching and Learning Modes. This event marked the 11th Virtual Inter-University Discussion, held as part of the Civic Engagement ProjectÌýCrossing Borders Through Social Media and Dialogue, initiated in 2019 by Professor Ekaterina Galimova (AUCA) and Professor Emilienne Akpan (AUN).

The primaryÌýgoalÌýofÌýthis international online eventÌýwasÌýto enhance students' leadership, critical thinking, and communication skills.ÌýApproximately 20 participants attended. AsÌýa fullyÌýstudent-centered event, the discussion was organized and hosted by two representatives from each university: Angel Oche and Wisdom Phillip from AUN andÌýNuriya Odinaeva and Nurofarid Kukanbekova from AUCA.

The event began with a General Discussion, followed by five Breakout Room Discussions that explored topics such as gender fluidity, financial aid provided to developing countries by international organizations, the role of AI in assessing university coursework, and the consequences of suppressing individual and fundamental freedoms in society.

As a follow-up, participants were encouraged to incorporate the insights gained into their English Composition essays.

Students provided feedback through a Google Forms survey to further improve future discussions.

Professor Ekaterina Galimova extended special thanks to the most active participants: Nozanin Abdulloeva, Safarkhotun Mamadbekova, Nurzhan Abazbekov, Adolat Noyobshoeva, Veronika Pliamkina, Ahmad Seyar Alizada, Malika Arli, Samir Sabirov, and Abdumalik Shamiev, for their enthusiasm, politeness, and engagement in asking and answering questions.

In turn, students expressed their gratitude to the professors for facilitating the event and for the opportunity to connect with peers from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds. Many participants also shared their excitement about joining future discussions.
