She was one of the pioneers of professional chiy panel art in Kyrgyzstan, a People鈥檚 Artist of Kyrgyzstan, and a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR from 1971. She expanded chiy beyond traditional ornament, transforming it into an artistic language capable of carrying figures, stories and movement.
This project began with my childhood fascination with her panel Too zhetelegen kyz (鈥�The Girl Leading a Camel鈥�). Years later, the memory of that work brought me back to chiy, this time as a researcher.
Her daughter Zhyrgal gave me invaluable support during this research, sharing memories and helping preserve the story of her mother鈥檚 work. Together with her siblings Damira, Shaigul and Jyrgalbek, she continues to safeguard Shaken Mambetaiypova鈥檚 artistic legacy and family memory.
